Rails developer, looking for a full-time full stack or backend role. Open to remote or Portland, Oregon.
Boldin helps people plan their financial future, on a Ruby on Rails back end with a lot of integrations. My most recent app, Partita Doppia, is bookkeeping software that links to bank feeds and imports from Xero's API.
Why I'm a fit for Boldin's Full Stack Engineer
Here's what the posting asks for, and what I've actually done.
Server-side framework and relational database (Ruby on Rails)
Four-plus years of Rails. I've designed, built, and run nearly a dozen production Rails apps on my own, on SQL (SQLite).
Third-party API integrations, with sound reasoning about failure
Partita Doppia imports from Xero over its API: chart of accounts, tax rates, contacts, invoices and bills with payments, transfers, and manual journals. Re-running the import updates records in place, and Xero's CSV exports work as a fallback.
Financial-account aggregation
Partita Doppia reconciles against a nightly SimpleFIN bank feed or uploaded CSV, OFX, and QFX statements, with ranked match suggestions, bank rules, and undoable matches.
Signup and other high-stakes flows
Partita Doppia's first run walks you through "Set up your books" with an emailed six-digit code, and sign-in is passwordless. Its UI is built to work on a phone.
Fintech and sensitive user data
Partita Doppia handles a small business's books and bank data, and uses Active Record encryption.
Write tested, maintainable code
Partita Doppia and Grateful Deploy ship with Minitest suites and a pre-push hook.
Front-end framework proficiency
My Rails front ends are Hotwire. I've also written a TypeScript phone web app, omacaffeine-phone.
To be upfront: React, payment processors, and webhook-driven billing would be new for me, and my experience comes from my own production apps rather than an employer.
About
I'm a self-taught Ruby on Rails developer in Portland, Oregon. Over the past four-plus years I've designed, built, and run nearly a dozen production Rails apps, solo. I handle every migration, the DNS records, and the deploys.
I borrow a lot from 37signals: a single Rails monolith, Hotwire on the front end, and almost always SQLite. I deploy with Kamal, including to my own home server through a Cloudflare tunnel.
I'm looking for a full-time full stack or backend role, open to remote or Portland, Oregon.
I'll be at SF Ruby, Nov 10-11, 2026. If you're there too, come say hi.
Open-source double-entry bookkeeping for small businesses: invoices, bills, bank reconciliation against a SimpleFIN feed or uploaded statements, standard reports, PDF invoices, and a Xero import over the API. Source
A local dashboard for apps deployed with Kamal: deploy, roll back, and read logs with a button, and see each app's version, health, and memory. Every button runs one fixed, allowlisted command. Source
A results platform for clubs and teams: race schedules, results, and real-time points standings. The Traverse City Track Club uses it for its Grand Prix series.
